We surely take for granted the patience and comfort of the Scriptures. They lay before us the full revelation of God to man. We have the opportunity each and every day to withdraw from the treasures of wisdom and knowledge and to find hope for the things we are dealing with today.
It’s a pity how many Christians spend so little time discovering the secrets about God unveiled in His Holy Word. No other people group in history has had the option to understand God to the same breadth that we can understand Him today. Oh, what the prophets of old would have given to access the full revelation of God!
Jesus still speaks these words to us as He did to His own personal disciples:
The things which are written in the Scriptures even compel the angels into rigorous study!
What a gift the Scriptures are! They are testimony of God’s faithfulness to man; of God’s will for man; and of God’s zeal for man. Just as the lighthouse captures the sailor’s attention in order to direct him home to shore, so too do the Scriptures light our path forward. In David’s words:
If the Scriptures were written for our learning, how could we be content to learn another way? Did not many great men of God learn the hard way for us? Didn’t many stumble along the way so we didn’t have to? The Scriptures are set up as a pillar of testimony for the Christian so that whenever we pass by them we may see what God has done. How then do we expect to learn of God apart from them? If they were written to give us hope, how then can we live any minute without them?
Our Lord admonishes us with the same words that King Solomon admonished his son with:
Consult the Scriptures for everything! Let each decision and every opportunity be instructed by the Word. All the wisdom you will ever need is found within.

Jethro, the father in law of Moses, is somewhat of a mysterious figure in the Old Testament. We know little about him, and yet every time he is mentioned, he is doing something significant that gives way to the will of God.
